The next RACP written exam, the Divisional Written Examination (DWE) for adult medicine, is on Tuesday 9 February 2027, with a reserve date of Tuesday 9 March 2027. Applications open at 10am AEDT on Monday 23 November 2026 and close at 5pm AEDT on Tuesday 8 December 2026. The RACP hadn't published any later 2027 sitting, or the 2027 clinical exam dates, when these dates were checked.
This page lists every published date in one place, converts the application times to your state, and suggests what to do with the weeks in between. It's updated whenever the RACP publishes new dates.
RACP written exam dates (DWE, adult medicine)
| Sitting | Exam date | Reserve date | Applications open | Applications close |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| October 2026 | Tuesday 20 October 2026 | n/a | Closed | Closed |
| February 2027 | Tuesday 9 February 2027 | Tuesday 9 March 2027 | 10am AEDT, Monday 23 November 2026 | 5pm AEDT, Tuesday 8 December 2026 |
| Later 2027 sittings | Not yet published | n/a | n/a | n/a |
The RACP's own DWE pages are the official source, so check them before you apply or book leave. If a date there differs from this table, the RACP page is right, and we'll correct this one.
Application times in your state
The RACP gives the application window in AEDT (Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart time). Here is the same window in local time, during daylight saving:
| Where you are | Applications open (Mon 23 Nov 2026) | Applications close (Tue 8 Dec 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| NSW, Victoria, ACT, Tasmania (AEDT) | 10am | 5pm |
| Queensland (AEST) | 9am | 4pm |
| South Australia (ACDT) | 9:30am | 4:30pm |
| Northern Territory (ACST) | 8:30am | 3:30pm |
| Western Australia (AWST) | 7am | 2pm |
| New Zealand (NZDT) | 12pm (midday) | 7pm |
The window is just over two weeks long. Put the opening date in your calendar now, and don't leave it to the last afternoon, when one run of shifts can catch you out. A missed window means waiting for the next published sitting.
What the February 2027 exam looks like
The adult medicine DWE has two papers:
| Paper | Questions |
|---|---|
| Medical Sciences | 70 |
| Clinical Applications | 100 |
Questions are single best answer, with a few extended matching items, and there's no negative marking. The RACP blueprint spreads them across the specialties. General Medicine has about 10 to 14 questions. Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Haematology, Infectious Diseases, Medical Oncology, Nephrology, Neurology, Respiratory and Sleep Medicine, and Rheumatology each have about 8 to 12. Geriatric Medicine has about 5 to 9. For what the questions are actually like, with a worked example, see what RACP written exam questions look like.
What about the clinical exam and results dates?
- Clinical exam (DCE): the RACP hadn't published 2027 Divisional Clinical Examination dates when this page was checked. Look for them on the RACP's DCE pages. If you're preparing for it now, the free short case is a timed, interactive case you can try without signing up, and the Clinical Exam: Examination Technique course covers how to examine under exam conditions.
- Written exam results: the RACP sets and announces results dates. Check its DWE pages and your RACP account rather than relying on dates passed around online.
Using the weeks between now and 9 February
From mid-October there are about 16 weeks to the February exam. Here's a simple way to use them.
- This week: find your baseline. Sit the free FRACP DWE Diagnostic: 40 questions in 71 minutes, the real exam's pace, with results by specialty. It tells you where to start.
- Before 23 November: make the plan. Block out study time around your roster, and decide which specialties come first. The 16-week RACP written exam study plan gives you a week-by-week version.
- 23 November to 8 December: apply. Do it early in the window, and keep the confirmation.
- December and January: build the Medical Sciences paper. Seventy questions on mechanisms is a lot to leave late. Courses such as Clinical Pharmacokinetics & Pharmacodynamics and Biostatistics & Evidence-Based Medicine cover two of the areas candidates most often under-prepare.
- From mid-January: full timed mocks. Sit them at exam pace, then spend as long reviewing as you spent sitting.
If you're re-sitting after October, give yourself a week off first. Then start again from a fresh baseline rather than from the topics you remember finding hard.
