Tricuspid Valve Disease

Cardiology

Long neglected, tricuspid regurgitation (TR) now has two approved transcatheter therapies. The TRILUMINATE Pivotal trial showed that transcatheter edge-to-edge repair with the TriClip device markedly improved quality of life and reduced TR severity versus medical therapy (TriClip was FDA-approved in 2024). The TRISCEND II trial showed that transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement with the EVOQUE system was superior to medical therapy on a hierarchical composite outcome, reducing TR to mild or less in the large majority of patients (EVOQUE became the first approved transcatheter tricuspid replacement, also in 2024). These give clinicians both a repair and a replacement option for severe symptomatic TR. Tricuspid stenosis, by contrast, has limited dedicated trial data; management centers on treating the underlying cause and symptomatic diuresis, with balloon valvuloplasty explored but not well studied.
