Applications for the February 2027 RACP written exam (the Divisional Written Examination, or DWE) open at 10am AEDT on Monday 23 November 2026 and close at 5pm AEDT on Tuesday 8 December 2026. You apply through the RACP, and the College's DWE February 2027 page has the link, the fee and the eligibility rules. The exam is on Tuesday 9 February 2027, with a reserve date of Tuesday 9 March 2027.
Below are the window in your local time and a checklist to work through before it opens, so applying takes minutes, not a stressful evening.

Before the window opens: a checklist
Do these in the next few weeks, while there's no deadline pressure.
- Check you're eligible. Read the eligibility rules on the RACP's DWE pages, and talk to your supervisor or director of physician education if anything is unclear. Ask early, while there's time to sort it out.
- Check the fee and how to pay. The RACP lists the fee on its DWE pages. Have your payment method ready, and ask your employer or training network now if they contribute to exam costs.
- Check the rules on attempts and withdrawal. If you've sat before, or might need to withdraw, read the RACP's rules on attempts, withdrawals and refunds before you apply, not after.
- Log in to your RACP account. Make sure you can sign in and that your details are current, especially your name as it appears on your ID and your contact email. Password resets at 4:55pm on the closing day are no fun.
- Think about adjustments. If you may need reasonable adjustments or special consideration, look up the RACP's process now. These often need documents and have their own deadlines.
- Book the leave. Request leave for Tuesday 9 February 2027, and keep the reserve date of Tuesday 9 March 2027 in mind. Rosters for February are often written well before Christmas.
- Put two reminders in your calendar: one for the morning applications open, and one a few days before they close.
On the day applications open
- Apply early in the window, ideally in the first few days. There's nothing to gain from waiting, and a lot to lose if a night shift or a sick child eats your last day.
- Keep the confirmation (screenshot or email), and check that the payment has gone through.
- If something goes wrong, contact the RACP straight away, while the window is still open, rather than after it closes.
If you're waiting on October results
October 2026 results may not be out until after the window opens, and the RACP announces the release date itself. If you sat in October and aren't sure whether you'll need February, check the RACP's rules on applying and withdrawing before you decide. Our RACP written exam results page sets out what to do next for either result.
Once you've applied: use the weeks well
From late November there are about eleven weeks to the exam, so the work after applying matters more than the application itself.
- Find your baseline. The free FRACP DWE Diagnostic is 40 questions in 71 minutes, at the real exam's pace, with results by specialty.
- Follow a plan. The 16-week RACP written exam study plan can be compressed if you're starting later. Prioritise your weakest specialties and full timed papers.
- Don't leave the Medical Sciences paper to the end. It's 70 of the 170 questions. Physiology is a good place to start: try courses such as Cardiovascular Physiology and Renal Physiology.
- Know the question style. Here's what RACP written exam questions look like, with a worked example.

Common questions
When can I apply for the February 2027 RACP written exam?
From 10am AEDT on Monday 23 November 2026 until 5pm AEDT on Tuesday 8 December 2026.
How much does the RACP written exam cost?
The RACP publishes the fee on its DWE pages. We don't quote it here, because fees change and the College's page is always current.
Am I eligible to sit the RACP written exam?
The eligibility rules are on the RACP's DWE pages. If you're unsure, ask your supervisor or director of physician education well before applications open.
Is the BPT written exam the same as the RACP written exam?
Yes. Basic physician trainees (BPT) sit the RACP Divisional Written Examination, so applying for the "BPT written exam" means applying for the DWE.
